Souk El Shater has one of the best middle eastern food I have tried in NYC. There is more of a take away place since there is only a counter top with about 6 stools.

I've had the Tabbouleh, Baba Ganoush, shish kebab platter, beef shawarma, hummus, chicken with rice and they have all been amazing!

The Tabbouleh is especially my favorite. We usually order a quart size container and it only last us about 2 days. It has the perfect combination of sour and garlic and salt taste. It's great in the summer when it's super hot outside and you just want a refreshing lunch or snack.

They take credit cards and there is a small section of groceries in the store.

    Shish Taouk sandwich - $5
    Walnut baklava - $1.50

I was walking down Queens Blvd tonight looking for a quick place to grab a bite. I saw that Souk El Shater had amazing reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered the Shish taouk (chunks of chicken breasts) sandwich and at the last second, decided to treat myself to a walnut baklava.

The Shish Taouk sandwich did not disappoint! With juicy chunks of chicken breasts, crisp vegetables, tahini and other delicious additions, this seemingly small "wrap" was a flavor explosion. Unsurprisingly, I devoured the entire thing before I even got on the subway!

Next was the baklava. I'm not usually a fan of sweets, especially given that baklava is usually drenched in honey, but this really surprised me. The phyllo dough was extremely light and crackled at the touch. It was still a bit sweet for my taste but the walnut flavor really shines through and was the perfect morsel.

Overall, for only $6.50 and a delightful conversation with the owner Mohammed, I would definitely come back to try some more of what they have to offer

Amazing service and delicious authentic Lebanese food! It took me two years after moving from Dearborn Michigan to find a real Shawarma making restaurant. Glad I stumbled accidentally by it!

I had a chance to visit this small Middle Eastern restaurant and market on consecutive days to pick up a variety of items.

    Let's start:

Kadayif 4.0/5.0: This was a very enjoyable version of Kadayif. The shredded phyllo dough was really crispy and crunchy and remained so even after 3 days. I enjoyed the restrained level of sweetness as many versions I've eaten are drenched in syrup.

Thyme and cheese bread 4.5/5.0: I originally wanted a Zaatar bread but was told they were sold out, so I opted for a half cheese half thyme bread. It was delicious! The thyme seasoning was SO fragrant and the smell even emanated through the bag. It's flavor was equal to the fragrance, being super herbaceous with heavy oregano-like taste.

The cheese was awesome too with flavor and texture nearly identical to the mozzarella cheese. Heating the bread on a skillet, put the cheese into a wonderful soft texture too.

Spinach pie 3.0/5.0: Okay, but the spinach filling was a bit bland. The pie's outer layer (crust) was nicely baked.

Cauliflower and beef in yogurt sauce 4.0/5.0: This most interesting combination of roasted cauliflower rosettes and chunks of beef swimming in a thick pool of tangy and rich yogurt was really yummy. Cauliflower was cooked to a nice texture that was just a little crunchy. The beef was quite tender, albeit lean. What made the dish special and bind everything together was the spectacular yogurt sauce. Creamy with a pleasing tart yogurt flavor, I could have eaten a rock with this sauce.

    Definitely worth another visit!
